CREATING 7,000 new jobs, improving public services and creating a new landscape park are the priorities of a taskforce dedicated to the South Wales Valleys.

The Welsh Government’s ministerial taskforce for the South Wales Valleys was launched last year and today, revealed its three top priorities.

These are to get 7,000 more people into work by 2021, create a new Valleys Landscape Park and develop projects to look at improving links between services in three areas, including Llanhilleth in Blaenau Gwent.

The priorities are set out in a report entitled Our Valleys, Our Future, which was due to be unveiled by Blaenau Gwent AM and minister for lifelong learning and the Welsh language Alun Davies today.

“Our Valleys, Our Future is not simply a plan for the Valleys,” he said.

“It is a plan from the Valleys.

“From the start, I have been clear this taskforce will not be another case of the government deciding what is right for the Valleys.

“If we are to succeed, local communities and local people must be at the heart of our work.”

The report has been created following an extensive consultation process with Valleys communities and other organisations.
