NEWPORT is in a party mood today as the annual Pill Carnival takes place.

The event will see hundreds of people lining the streets of Pill to see the colourful floats pass by.

Fourteen-year-old Angel Paul was chosen as this year’s queen while Connie Sefton, 14, and Caitlin Brockway, 16, were named as the attendants. Six flower girls and six court ladies were also chosen to assist them.

The carnival starts from Alexander Road via Commercial Road, Cardiff Road and Mendalgief Road.

Joining the procession will be floats, marching bands and cheerleaders.

After the parade, one of the city’s biggest celebrations will continue on the fields by the Pill Mill centre, where there will be live music and DJs.

There will also be a fun fair, food vans, bouncy castles, dancing, face painting, mascots and more.
