A MAN is coming to the end of a yearlong running challenge this weekend.
Scott Hayden from Newport started running four years ago and has taken part in marathons and a 40 mile ultra-marathon.
He said: “I woke up four years ago and decided to make a change in my life. I went for a run and it spiralled from there.
“I wanted to do something last year, so I decided to give running every day for a year a go. I wanted to do it for charity and chose Ty Hafan.”
Despite often working 60 hour weeks, the 39-year-old father said the challenge has been difficult.
“It has been tough mentally,” he explained. “The staff at Ty Hafan work so hard, and they inspire me to keep going. During difficult periods the sponsorship kept me running, if I hadn’t chosen a charity I would have given up a long time ago.”
Throughout the challenge, Mr Hayden’s family have supported his challenge and he said he has had to make sacrifices to blance his life with his daily runs.
He added: “I’m a bit drained now, so I’m glad it’s coming to the end. Because I have been doing it every day I will wake up when finish I feel like I need to go running. I don’t regret doing it. I have really enjoyed it.
