AN INQUEST has concluded into the death of a man who lost control of his car, crashing into a a tree on his way to work.

Matthew Jay Hayman, of Abertillery, overtook a colleague in his car at speed but lost control going around a bend and was launched into the tree, Newport Coroners Court heard today.

The 31-year-old, of Princess Street, Abertillery, was driving to work at approximately 7am along a 30mph road.

His work colleague Sam Rogers said that he saw Mr Hayman's car speed past him before "twitching" and going off the road in Croespenmaen Industrial Estate near Newport.

He said that he was driving within the speed limit and Mr Hayman's car overtook him when he was approximately 30m from the entrance of the saw mill.

He said: "He overtook me and then gradually got faster. The back of the car twitched, and after that it flipped and rolled and became airborne.

"Then it hit a tree and twisted around it."

Newport Coroners Court heard that Mr Rogers then phoned for emergency services.

An examination of Mr Hayman's Gold Peugeot 306 found that he had hit the tree at just over 50mph, however that car would have lost some speed after leaving the road.

The inquest heard that the minimum speed a driver could go around the bend before losing control would have been 62mph and that Mr Hayman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time he lost control.

His cause of death was registered as multiple skull and rib fractures and coroner David Bowen recorded a verdict of misadventure.

He said: "The car overturned, collided with the tree with such force it was twisted around the tree and the roof of the car was squashed.

"Mr Hayman was not wearing a seatbelt but I do not think that had material baring on his death at all."

was the ex-boyfriend of Cerys Yemm, 22, who was killed after she was attacked by Matthew Williams, 34, at the Sirhowy Arms Hotel, Blackwood in November 2014.

A jury found in April that Miss Yemm was unlawfully killed after Williams - who suffered from drug induced paranoid schizophrenia - used broken pieces of pottery to cut her face, neck and body just two weeks after being released from prison.

Williams also died at the scene after being tasered by police officers.
