PEOPLE have welcomed plans to convert derelict Grade II listed toilets into a café.

The Argus reported last week that the disused Victorian gentlemen’s toilets went to auction and sold for almost eight times the original asking price.

The site, in Alexandra Road, was sold for £31,500 at Paul Fosh Auctions recent sale.

Pill resident Kathleen Day said it was "about time" that the site was put to use.

She said: "It's been derelict for years. Unfortunately a lot of crime happens here.

"Having a café would do wonders for this part of Pill."

Omar Rahman, 52, also welcomed the plan.

"I've lived just off Alexandra Road for years and have always wanted the toilets to be used for something," said Mr Rahman.

"For someone to buy them for £31,000 shows that there's big potential for the site."

"There's even a car park right behind it which will be good for business."
