THERE will be no fireworks display this year at Rodney Parade it was announced today.
Concerns over the new pitch at the stadium have meant that there wil be no display this year.
Head of Operations at Rodney Parade, Mark Jones commented; “We have a duty to protect the newly installed hybrid pitch and the surrounding 3G area and as the pitch is the fall-out zone for our fireworks we are unable to host the evening here.
“We have undertaken numerous reports to see whether we can change the location or direction of where the fireworks are set off, however the risk is too high on the damage that may be caused if a firework lands onto the synthetic fibres.
“We have attempted to move the fun filled evening to a separate location but unfortunately an alternative venue has not been found.
“We are sorry that we cannot hold this event in the city centre.”
