A COMIC book shop in Newport has opened a new branch in Pontypool, just four months after thieves broke in and stole £6,000 worth of stock.

Robbers broke into Sin City Comics in Commercial Street in June, stealing stock, cash and equipment.

But now the store, which first opened in Cwmbran in 2015 and moved to Newport last year, opening a second branch in Pontypool Market this weekend.

Owner Shane Jordan, who is also the brains behind Newport's own comic convention GeekedFest, said he came up with the idea of opening up a new store in the town while hosting the Pontypool GeekedFest this summer.

"We worked really hard to get this up and running," he said.

"We were going to open in time for the Pontypool GeekedFest in July,. but the robbery really set us back.

"It really knocked my confidence and I seriously thought it could be the end. But we bounced back."

Mr Jordan added he hoped the shop would also help bring more people into the town.

"Every time I went up there I saw there were come empty units and it was full of kids on their lunch from school," he said.

"The market has given us permission to do Pokemon events and Yu-Gi-Oh card tournaments. Hopefully those will be successful.

"It's about building a community, and if we can bring more people into the town and it helps the market then that's great."
