A CAERPHILLY man who has become so angry at not having his bin collected decided to personally deliver it to the council’s headquarters in protest.

Stephen Batt, from Ystrad Mynach, said he chased bin men down the road after they refused to take his brown bin for the third time.

The 44-year-old claims that the council’s bin men are “moving the goal posts” and he has not had his bin taken for the “smallest”infractions.

The brown bins are for recyclable items such as paper, card and empty food cartons – but Mr Batt claims his local bin men have been refusing his bin, even though he says all the correct items are in there.

Mr Batt said: “This was the third time they would not collect my bin and I could not understand why. Everything that was in there was supposed to be in there. I saw that they didn’t collect my bin so I actually chased them down the street to ask them why they didn’t take it.

“I’m fed up of them saying there are items in my bin that shouldn’t be there.”

The 44-year-old said he has called Caerphilly council several times regarding the issue, telling them that if his bin wasn’t taken he would take it deliver it to the council offices.

Last week Mr Batt took his bin down to the council and left it outside the doors to Penallta House with a note saying he will no longer recycle.

He also posted a video of the protest online.

He said: “I guess looking back it was a bit silly, but at the same time I wanted to give the council a message.”

A spokesman for Caerphilly council said they have “worked hard to raise awareness about what items can and can’t be placed in the recycling bins.”

The spokesman said: “Whilst the majority of residents recycle correctly, unfortunately there is still a minority who do not and this can cause contamination problems (eg food waste, nappies, pet poo, etc, being placed in the recycling bin).

“The fact is that even one incorrect item placed within the recycling bin can contaminate the entire lorry load of recycling, which can then be refused by the recycling contractor.”
