A NEW bargain store which will create 60 new jobs is set to be opened by nurses from the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport.

B&M will open its new store in East Retail Park in Docks Way, Newport, at 9am on Wednesday, replacing the former shop in Maesglas Retail Park which closed in November, and creating an additional 60 jobs.

New staff were asked to nominate heroes they think deserves some VIP treatment for the work they do for the community in Newport.

They chose the nurses at the Royal Gwent Hospital baby unit who will be taking centre stage as they officially unveil the new B&M store, alongside Newport mayor, Cllr David Fouweather.

The nurses on the specialist unit care for Gwent’s most sick babies, from those born at the edges of survivable prematurity, around 23 weeks, to those born at full term who require specialist intervention.

In addition to opening the new store, the representatives also received £250 worth of B&M vouchers.

Susan Pumford, store manager, said: “The nurses from the Royal Gwent Hospital Baby Unit really stood out for us as they go the extra mile for local community, we wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work they do.

“We hope that our donation can help them to continue the great work they do.”

On Saturday, November 18, customers will also be able to enter the B&M Big Prize Bonanza, a free game show taking place at the store to carry the atmosphere throughout the day. Those who enter will be in with a chance of winning prizes including a slow cooker, B&M vouchers and chocolates.

The original store in Maesglas Retail Park closed in early November and B&M said the new store has undergone a comprehensive internal and external make over programme before opening its doors.

The store already employed 23 colleagues but the bigger space will see them taking on an additional 60 colleagues.

Customers can expect to find a wide variety of branded products including toys, food and drink, homeware, pet products, health and beauty and seasonal ranges.

The store will also boast an extensive DIY, decorating and furniture range.
