TINNED goods and advent calendars have been donated by staff from Melin Homes in support of Torfaen’s Eastern Valley food bank.

A veritable smorgasbord of items were handed over the Pontypool-based housing association in the lead up to one of the busiest times for food banks – Christmas.

The Trussell Trust-operated food banks work with different frontline professionals who can help refer people to the food banks, such as doctors, health visitors, social workers, housing associations and the Citizens Advice.

The charity has also worked with nutritionists to ensure food parcels contains sufficient nutrition for at least three days’ worth of healthy, balanced meals for individuals and families.

Paula Kennedy, the chief executive of Melin Homes, said:“It is a privilege for Melin to support such a worthy cause.

“I can’t thank the staff enough for their generosity. To give something back to the local community is very important to us.”

A food bank spokesman said: “Melin’s support has been amazing. We couldn’t believe our eyes when we went to collect all the food.

“This will help so many people, thank you.”
