A MAN was assaulted and robbed of his mobile phone by two men, one of whom is believed to have been carrying a knife.

The incident happened on Corporation Road in Newport, between 10.30pm and 10.50pm on last Sunday, November 19.

The two men, wearing black hats pulled over their faces, approached their victim and asked for the time.

He answered and then tried to walk away, but the men continued to follow him, asking him to check the time on his phone, whilst showing him what is believed to be the tip of a knife.

When the victim refused, the men assaulted him before making off with his mobile phone. Victim did not sustain any injuries.

The first assailant is described as black, around 18 years old, and approximately 5ft 10in tall.

He spoke with a local accent, was of a slim build, and wore a black hooded top and a black bobble hat which had been pulled of his face to conceal his identity. He was also wearing grey jogging bottoms of a shiny polyester material with a shiny silver stripe down the legs.

The second attacker is described as black, around 5ft 8in tall, of slim build.

He too was wearing a black hooded top and wore a similar hat to his accomplice, which was again pulled over his face. He was also wearing black jogging bottoms of a cotton material.

Gwent Police believe this to have been an isolated incident. Anyone with any information is asked to telephone 101, quoting log number 537 19/11/17.
