ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY pupils from a Torfaen school help to clear more than 20 bags of rubbish from the British site in Talywain.
Garnteg Primary School’s eco-committee worked with Torfaen council, Keep Wales Tidy, Gwent Wildlife Trust, and volunteers from the British Liaison Committee to help keep the former ironworks site litter free.
This was the second time that the children had taken part in a litter pick at the site, collecting more than 40 bags six months ago.
The children are determined to stop the persistent littering of the British and to help people understand the damage that it is causing.
Eco committee member Libby Williams said: “I am shocked at the amount of litter I have seen. It is bad for the environment.”
Fellow committee member Dellan Scammell said: “People should be putting litter in the bin and not dropping it here.”
Cllr Fiona Cross, executive member for the environment, said: “The children did a fantastic job clearing a huge amount of rubbish and I would like to say thank you to them all for their hard work.
“The British is a beautiful area that belongs to all of us, and I am proud that our school children are taking a stand against those who blight our environment with litter.”
