COUNCIL members in Newport are to be urged to throw their support behind the proposed M4 relief road.
Leader of the city's Conservative group Cllr Matthew Evans and Langstone ward member Cllr William Routley will jointly present a motion calling on members to officially support the so-called 'black route' at a meeting of Newport City Council next week.
The proposed motion reads: "This council supports the black route proposals for the M4 relief road. It urges Welsh Government to resolve outstanding concerns as a matter of urgency, and start the project as soon as possible."
The black route would see a new stretch of motorway built around the city, bypassing the congested Brynglas Tunnels.
The meeting on Tuesday, November 28, will begin at 5pm and is open to the public.
A public inquiry into plans to relieve congestion on the M4 will resume next month.
