TORFAEN Council’s play workers and play volunteers have come together to enhance subways in Cwmbran for the benefit of local children.
A total of 16 subways in key locations around schools, shops and other areas heavily used by children were repainted with colourful murals and images.
The work was done as part of an on-going programme to encourage children and young people to feel safer when using these routes to travel around their community.
Councillor Mandy Owen, chair of the Play Sufficiency Action Group, said: “For a long time these subways have been grotty and uninviting, and by painting them with bright and colourful designs we hope that children will feel safer using them to walk to school or to play in their local area.
“The play workers and volunteers have done a fantastic job painting these subways during the worst of the miserable weather, and I would like to thank them all for their hard work.”
