A HOAX caller reported that a person was jumping into the River Usk near Friars Walk in Newport, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has said.
A spokeswoman said: "At 2.41pm South Wales Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a person jumping into the River Usk near Friars Walk, Newport.
"Crews from Maindee, Malpas and Duffryn were mobilised and arrived on scene within six minutes, however there was no sign of a casualty in the water.
"At 3.21pm control staff received the stop message that crews had been stood down and that this incident was a hoax call.
"The service would like to remind the public that making hoax and malicious calls is a criminal offence and endanger lives of those who are really in potentially life-threatening incidents."
