POLICE officers were subjected to a number of assaults at the weekend, including being bitten and head butted.
Head of neighbourhood, response and uniform operations at Gwent Police, Marc Budden, said on Sunday morning: "11 officers assaulted in Gwent in the last 24 hours.
"This includes being bitten, spat at and head butted. All stayed on duty."
He added: "It is totally unacceptable behaviour. Offenders will be dealt with robustly."
In May an officer suffered a head injury while on duty in Newport city centre.
During the course of dealing with the incident, the police officer sustained a head injury due to a fall.
