SOUTH Wales Fire and Rescue were called out to an early morning car fire in a residential city street.

A witness, who also managed to film the blaze, said the car fire happened in front of a house in Argosy close, Newport, at about 2am on Monday, June 18.

Speaking to the South Wales Argus, Mr Hussain, who lives nearby and witnessed the fire, said: "I filmed the fire at about 2.14am but it must have started at 2am because the car alarm went off and the owner did not turn it off.

"Of course I was very concerned for nearby households as all the home lights were off and fire was so close to the front door. A few of us who were alert at that time managed to call 999."

A spokesman for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call at 18/06/2018 2.07am regarding a vehicle on fire.

"A crew from Maindee attended and one hose reel jet was used.

"The stop message was received at 2.29am and the incident was handed over to Gwent Police who were in attendance."
