NEWPORT City Council has been celebrating the opening of two new parks.

Children will now be able to enjoy new swings, slides and roundabouts in Caerleon and Newport.

The mayor of Newport, Cllr Malcolm Linton, formally opened both sites.

The first park was opened in Turner Street on Friday, June 15.

Among the guests were the council’s cabinet member for culture and sport, Cllr Deb Harvey, ward councillors Carmel Townsend, Holly Townsend and Phil Hourahine.

This playground was funded by Section 106 money which is contributed by developers for community developments and cost £26,905. It will cater for juniors.

Also on Friday, 15 June, a second playground was opened in Home Farm, Caerleon.

Newport City Council carried out the work on the site to provide suitable play equipment ideal for toddlers.

The playground now boasts a slide, swings, a spring rocker and a climbing frame.

Money for the playground, which cost £20,000, also came from Section 106 funding.

Cllr Harvey and ward councillors Gail Giles, Jason Hughes and Joan Watkins attended this opening.

The playground was created following consultation with local parents and youngsters who were asked for their suggestions in November 2017.
