A FUN day to raise money for a little girl who cannot grow has been hailed a success.
Seven-year-old Kara-Jay Horton, from Beechwood, was born with Turner Syndrome, a condition which affects just one in every 2,000 baby girls.
The rare condition means she has just one X chromosome, rather than two, and without the injections she cannot grow like other children.
Darren Rice, Kara-Jay’s step-granddad, has been organising fundraising events including the yearly fun day at St Patrick's Church in Newport. The fun day raised £703.24 for the Turner Syndrome Support Society.
Speaking to the Argus, he said: "It went really well today. We must have had about 150 kids here.
"We got army vehicles down, had a tombola and a Looney Tunes disco. We even had animals for the kids to hold, including a tarantula, a couple of snakes and a bearded dragon.
"This is the fourth year we've held this, and we will do another next year.
"It's all about raising awareness and a bit of money for a disorder that doesn't get the attention it should.
"I just love doing it for my granddaughter. And I want to thank everyone who came and donated, as well as all the people who gave us prizes to give away and so on. It all means so much."
