A YOUNG man is planning a 24-hour marathon trek up one of Wales' tallest mountains in memory of his grandfather.

Dane Morgan, originally from Abertillery, will walk up and down Pen-Y-Fan eleven times in a single day to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

On each ascent, Mr Morgan will take a pebble painted with a different letter from his grandfather's name.

At the end of his journey, 'Brian Morgan' will be displayed proudly on the mountaintop.

Mr Morgan's grandfather passed away a month ago at the age of 74 after a battle with prostate cancer.

"He used to come and watch me play football when I was younger", Mr Morgan said of his grandfather.

"Later, when I got into mixed martial arts, he watched me do that too. He was brilliant, really."

Mr Morgan, 30, who now lives in Brynmawr, has set up a Just Giving page to raise money for his chosen charity.

He will begin his Pen-Y-Fan challenge on September 1, accompanied by his friends, Christopher Williams and Jordan Paull, as well as others who have pledged to climb the mountain once.
