A CYCLIST says he feels "lucky to be alive" after a speeding car forced him from the road before destroying three cars and a wall.

Kevin Fortey, from Cwmbran, was cycling near Hollybush with a friend when the incident occurred.

The car, he said, "came straight for us".

“We were cycling and heard screeching. Then saw the car coming for us,” he added.

“We had to jump into a hedge or we would be dead.

"It was going more than 70 miles an hour, I would say."

Mr Fortey, who is well known for growing giant vegetables, said the car's speed increased further as it travelled down Ton Road.

"At the end of the road there is a nasty bend," he added. "The driver took out a resident’s car and pushed it 40 yards. The impact of that collision meant they lost control.”

The BMW smashed into three other vehicles, including this one

Mr Fortey (pictured below), who lives in Ton Road, said it was only a matter of time until someone was killed there.

South Wales Argus:

“I usually cycle with my 11-year-old son Jamie," he said.

“Residents are fed up of the situation. What more will it take to show the road is a fatality waiting to happen?”

Police officers are appealing for information regarding the identities of the man and the woman who were travelling in the BMW but fled when the crasg occurred.
