EMERGENCY services attended a collision on the M48 motorway.

Police confirmed the accident on the M48 Westbound near the junction with the M4 involved only one vehicle.

One lane was closed due to accident on M48 Westbound from J2 A466 (Chepstow) to M4 J23, but it was reopened shortly after 6pm.

Motorists were told to remain in their cars while the incident was dealt with.

One witness stuck on the motorway told the South Wales Argus that the heat drove people out of their cars despite the warning.

"Lots of emergency services are here", added the witness.

A spokesman for the South Wales Ambulance Service confirmed they were at the scene.

But a spokesman for Gwent Police later confirmed no serious injuries were sustained in the crash.
