THE mystery of Chepstow Road's wandering ferret has been solved.

On Wednesday, we reported that the "friendly and pretty faced" creature had been handed over to the Welsh Owl and Wildlife Sanctuary in Treowen after it was found on Dale Road.

Officials appealed for its owner to collect him.

Thanks to Argus readers, the ferret, whose name is Zorro has now been returned to his home with fellow escapee Psycho also found.

As a keen rabbiter, Gary Williams, 30 of Abbey Road, Newport has kept ferrets all his life and has had Zorro, Psycho and another called Perky for about two years.

He said: "They both escaped at the same time from an enclosure that I have in the back yard and one went one way down Dale Road and the other went towards Newton Road.

"Perky didn't bother, probably because he's too lazy. Zorro is lovely and mild mannered but I'm glad the lady on Newton Road was brave enough to catch Psycho as he's a nasty piece of work."

The animals live in an enclosure of Mr Williams' garden fenced off with mesh.

He now plans to use more nets to ensure the wandering ferrets don?t go off on any more adventures.
