A WOMAN who alleges that she was raped by a former councillor when she was a teenager agreed at Cardiff crown court that she had made abusive telephone calls to him when she lived abroad and before she reported the matter to the police.

Under cross-examination the woman said "I called him all the names I could think of."

She also said that she had asked 68-year-old Alan Jolly for £10,000 or she would go to the police.

Jolly of Lower Salisbury Street, Tredegar, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of rape.

Prosecutor Janet McDonald said the alleged offence took place over twenty years ago when the woman was 15 or 16 and he was thirty years older.

She claimed he collected her from her home, took her drinking before taking her to a flat, showing her into a bedroom and getting into bed with her and raping her.

When arrested, Jolly claimed she suggested going to bed, was "touchy feely" and instigated the sexual activity.

It is claimed Jolly told her afterwards "This is our secret."

In 2003, it is alleged that Jolly wrote to her "in very suggestive terms" which made her feel sick and angry with the result that she went to the police.

Under cross-examination by defence counsel Jeffrey Jones, she described Jolly as "a sick old man."

Mr Jones asked her "You were looking for revenge, weren't you?"

She replied "Absolutely."

She also agreed that she had contacted the council of which he was then a member to "spread dirt about him."

She claimed he had threatened her and told her he would hunt her down wherever she lived.

"I lived scared for a very long time."

She pointed out that she was on medication for depression and had panic attacks because of what occurred.

"I was always very nervous, but because of what happened I'm extremely worse."

She added " You can say it was just sex but I am telling you it was rape, there's a big difference."

She also said "I've thought about this for the last 35 years. It was not consensual."

At one point, breaking down, she told Mr Jones "What are you trying to do to me, stick a knife into me?"
