PEOPLE across Gwent are trying to brighten up their communities amid the coronavirus pandemic – by creating rainbows.

The idea to create an army of colourful rainbows - whether drawn, painted or created some other way - was born on social media and has been shared among many groups, with parents using the idea to keep their children occupied and creative while off school.

It has seen many windows in various communities including Newport, Risca, Pontymister and Newbridge, decorated with various sized rainbows.

The idea is also leading to a game of ‘rainbow hide and seek’ where people - the ones who aren't quarantined, anyway - can go and hunt for the rainbows and see how many they can find.

Sophie Symons from Risca got both her children involved. She said: “Aurora, age three, and her little brother Hunter, 20 months, created tissue paper rainbows. We decorated our own house and then pushed them through the letterboxes of people we knew were self-isolating to put a smile on their faces.”
