TV STAR, Robert Llewellyn urged Torfaen residents to recycle, while he was filming in Cwmbran.

The Scrapheap Challenge presenter and former Red Dwarf star was filmed putting bottles into a glass recycling bank at Cwmbran Stadium.

The shoot was part of Channel 5 programme How Do They Do It? which will also feature local recycling company Knauf Insulation.

Knauf, based in Torfaen, is one of only two factories in the country that produces glass wool insulation from recycled glass.

The programme will focus on how waste glass is turned into glass wool.

It will describe all the processes involved, starting with Robert putting a bottle into the bank.

Councillor John Cunningham, Executive Member for Operational Services, was pleased Torfaen's recycling facilities were featured.

He said: "Thanks to residents' efforts we are now recycling 37 per cent of waste in the county borough and we are in the top 25 per cent of local authorities in Wales for our recycling performance.

Robert, who played Kryten in Red Dwarf, said: "Itis easy to recycle in Torfaen so I would encourage all residents to do it."

Torfaen's recycling performance is set to receive a further boost when some 8,000 residents in the Pontypool area are added to the Twin Bin scheme next month.

The TV programme featuring Torfaen is due to be shown on Channel 5 at 7.30pm on March 13.
