Coming across a poetry competition and deciding to give it a go, Minetta Morris has discovered a talent for writing poetry, which has resulted in her publishing a book of her poems, entitled Country Thoughts which is based on local scenes and activities.

"That first competition was for the National Poetry Anthology," she explained, "and, although I didn't win, I was lucky enough to have one poem accepted for a paperback Poetic Fantasy and another in the Director's Diary 2008."

Following further entries in Poet of the Year 2007 and People and Places it was suggested that Minetta publish a book of her works, which led to Country Thoughts.

"I've always enjoyed oil painting, as a keen amateur," she said, "but now I have found as much pleasure, if not more so, in writing poetry."

Country Thoughts is available from Mandalay Bookshop and Lindwall's newsagents in Usk and other independent bookshops throughout the county, or can be ordered direct from Minetta on 01291 641561.
