A TALENTED Abersychan stand-up comedienne has reached the finals of national talent competition, Upstaged.

Elise Harris, 25, is on the BBC3 show - presented by DJ Scott Mills - which requires contestants to entertain viewers for a marathon six hours, while inside a glass box in Millennium Square, Bristol.

Ms Harris is part of a group called YouStage; Vloggers from the UK. The team of ten - who upload popular videos onto the website YouTube - beat Terry "the Odd Job Man" with 83 percent of the vote in the quarter-finals on Monday.

A delighted Ms Harris said: "I'm thrilled to be taking part in this show - and winning over the viewers.

"I first got involved when Myles, one of the group, approached me to take part.

"We keep the viewers entertained by combining our talents. We do all sorts of things like singing, origami and presenting.

"It feels like a cross between being on Big Brother and presenting a children's TV show."

So far Ms Harris has spent a total of 30 hours in the glass box, in an attempt to win the £10,000 prize money.

The ex-Abersychan School pupil now lives in London doing stand-up on the comedy circuit and has performed at the Edinburgh Festival for the last two years.

She said: "Someday I would like to be famous. In this industry you'd be lying if you said you didn't."

The Upstaged semi-final will take place on Friday at 3pm. Live broadcast will be shown on the BBC Upstaged website.
