PROUD Welsh men and women entered a bidding war when they battled to become owners of nationalistic number plates.
A plate declaring itself WEL 5H was the heart of bids from people at the Celtic Manor site and on phone. The plate was finally sold for £27,200, exceeding its £3,000 reserve by some margin.
The WEL5H plate went to a business man currently living in Oxford. It was one of 1,500 plates up for grabs from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency.
Bids are coming to a close for plates entitled C7 MRU and CY51 MRY this afternoon.
