AN ex-miner accused of sexually abusing four girls was described as a "proven liar" at Cardiff crown court.

Prosecutor Martin Kelly was making his closing speech in the case in which 64-year-old David Johnson of Ebbw Vale, has denied 26 charges involving five girls.

They are of indecent assault and sexual activity with a child.

Mr Kelly alleges that Johnson abused four of the girls in the 1990s, culminating in him raping a girl under 16.

Johnson has denied all the allegations and said that at no time did anything inappropriate occur.

He also told the police when arrested that he had a sexual dysfunction which prevented him involving in any sexual conduct.

Mr Kelly said the police had discovered that Johnson had been prescribed Viagra.

Mr Kelly told the jury the girls involved did not exaggerate and the allegations by four of them were "quite minimal."

Mr Kelly added: "The only proven liar in this case is Johnson."

Johnson's full address is being withheld until the end of the trial at the request of the judge.
