HEALTH bosses in Gwent have set up a hospital environment and cleanliness project to ensure national standards can be met and infection levels minimised.

The initial focus is on the Royal Gwent Hospital, which is being divided into 18 zones, each with its own action plan for achieving and maintaining cleanliness standards.

All public areas, including A&E, have been deep cleaned and a hospital-wide decluttering exercise carried out, to dispose of obsolete, broken, damaged or unwanted equipment.

Among other projects completed is a renewal of public toilets on level three of the hospital.
