A NEWPORT man who attacked his partner in the presence of a child was been jailed today for 12 months at Cardiff crown court.
Liam Morgan, 25, of Gainsborough Drive, Newport, had been found guilty of causing Cheryl Cadman actual bodily harm.
He pleaded guilty to stealing a mountain bike.
Recorder Christopher Clee said this was "very unpleasant and you know that.
"You assaulted her in the presence of a three-year-old child. It has to be custody."
Prosecutor John Warren said Morgan attacked her in her home and grabbed her by the throat and kneed and kicked her. She suffered bruising and lumps to her head.
Morgan's counsel Harry Baker, said: "The injuries were not of the greatest seriousness.
He has already been in custody 120 days.
"True, there has been a pattern of petty offending in the past."
