GCSE student Demisha Hembury from Sebastopol will proudly wear the crown of carnival Queen at this year's Pontypool Carnival.

Demisha, 16, a pupil at West Monmouthshire Comprehensive says she's always enjoyed the carnival atmosphere.

"I wanted to take part in this as its an important part of the community," she said.

"I've always liked the carnival and I go every year."

Demisha said she dressed to impress the carnival judges for the parade in July.

"We had to do our hair, dress up and do your make up.

"The judges asked us what our hobbies are and what we'd like to do for jobs in the future."

She says she enjoys acting and dancing, but before thinking about a career she wants to continue her study at A Level and is looking to undertake courses in law and psychology.

The court includes Dominic Leek, pageboy; Jodie Hughes, court attendant; Hannah Browne, fllower girl and Darcie George, rosebud.
