The Junior pupils of Llanvihangel Crucorney Primary School were invited by the Friends of Newport Rugby Trust' to provide the Guard of Honour at last Saturday's fixture at Rodney Parade. This game was the last home fixture of the season for Newport R.F.C. and the children were there to cheer them on. Children from the school's rugby, football, netball, gymnastics and country dancing teams all lined up to welcome the players onto the pitch as they took on Bedwas.
At half time the numbers for the monthly bullion draw were chosen. At this the children were invited to meet Keith Jarrett, the former Newport player, who made a memorable point-scoring debut for Wales as an 18 year old in 1967.
Even though Newport didn't manage to defeat Bedwas, the sun shone and the children had a wonderful afternoon. For many of them, this was an opportunity to see their first, full game of rugby. The school would like to thank the Friends of Newport Rugby Trust' and Newport R.F.C. for this opportunity.
