GLAMORGAN cricketers joined in the fun at a charity cricket match to raise funds for Newport toddler Finley Ellis-Hall.

The Llanmartin youngster suffers from neuroblastoma, which causes him to suffer lesions and tumours across his body and has already cost the 23-month-old his sight.

He is currently receiving pioneering treatment which is hoped will stop the neuroblastoma.

If it works, Finlay will go to the USA or China so he can receive optic nerve regeneration treatment, but they need to raise £53,000 to go.

On Sunday Glamorgan starts teamed up with Undy cricketers at the Undy ground to face Underwood, to help little Finlay.

The home side triumphed, winning by 44 runs, finishing on 134 with Underwood finishing 90 all out.

David Harrison, Mike Powell and Mark Wallace were just some of the players lending their skills for the day and there was also a barbeque, raffle and auction of sports memorabilia.

A grand slam signed rugby ball fetched £800 and other items included signed Wales, Ospreys and Dragons jerseys.

Organiser and Finley's second cousin, Peter Ford, 39, of Rockfield Grove, Undy, said: "I'm absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity of everybody. I think it's absolutely fantastic. It's been a really good day."

Around £4,000 was raised at a rugby presentation evening held on Saturday night, with items auctioned off, including a signed James Hook Wales jersey and a signed Joe Calzaghe photo.

Mr Ford said he hoped the proceeds from Sunday's event would make another £2,500.

Finley's auntie, Cherie Hall, 30, of Woodland Road, Underwood, added: "It's really good, it means so much to the family. The support we've had locally has been unbelievable."
