CHRISTMAS is coming and with it the opportunity to make magical memories with your little ones.

Forget the Polar Express – the elves at Blaenavon’s Heritage Railway are hard at work planning for the 'steam Santa special trains' which prove popular each year.

Here's what you need to know about this high demand event...

What’s included?

The steam Santa specials, hosted by Blaenavon's Heritage Railway, include:

  • A steam-hauled return journey from Furnace Sidings via Blaenavon High Level and Garn-Yr-Erw (The Whistle Inn and Park) Halt;
  • A visit from Santa while aboard the train – he will have a gift for each ticketed child;
  • Complimentary juice for children with a mince pie and drink (sherry, baileys or a non-alcoholic alternative) for adults.

Where do people board?

Passengers will be welcomed aboard the steam train at the festively decorated Furnace Sidings station. Motorists can use NP4 9SF for satnavs and mobiles - this will lead to the junction of the B4248 and the road leading to the Garn Lakes and the railway. Those driving should go down this road until they reach the free car park.

For people travelling via public transport more information is here: bhrailway.co.uk/finding-us

When will the trains operate?

The trains will operate on the first three weekends of December (Saturday and Sunday):

  • December 2 and 3;
  • December 9 and 10;
  • December 16 and 17.
