PROPOSALS to redevelop Abergavenny Cattle Market are now on display across the town with Monmouthshire council seeking residents' feedback.

Cattle Market plans were rejected by the council's planning committee in January 2007.

Now developers want greater consultation with residents before final plans are submitted.

The two proposed designs include an Asda store, library and retail developments.

Permanent exhibitions of the plans can be viewed at the One Stop Shop, in Cross Street, Abergavenny Leisure Centre and the Central Library until July 22.

Plans can also be viewed tonight at St Michael's Centre in Penypound or next Tuesday at Llanfoist Village hall. They are also available online at www.monmouthshire.gov.uk Despite visitor numbers in Abergavenny falling by 33 per cent over the past 10 years, Monmouthshire Council hope the redevelopment will bring people back.

Although Cllr Bob Greenland, deputy leader and cabinet member for regeneration was confident the development would increase footfall, he said the town was looking at years rather than months before the supermarket would be open for business.

An independent design panel consisting of representatives from Abergavenny Town Council, Bryn-y-Cwm Development Forum, the Design Commission for Wales, Henry Boot and Asda will meet in mid-August to discuss feedback received, before considering any alterations before seeking planning consent.
