Just one week after repairs followingtraffic damage to Usk bridge, there has been another incident of aforeign heavy goods lorry clipping the corner of the bridge, causing yet more unsightly damage.
Usk Mayor, Tony Kear, said, "It's incredibly disappointing that this beautiful bridge has again been badly damaged by a long HGV passing through Usk when there is a 7.5 tonne weight limit.More so as the Bridge has only last week been repaired, and the culprit failed to stop - probably not even realising the damage that has been caused."
Collaboration with Monmouth-shire County Council to deal with this problem, along with air pollution in Bridge Street, has resulted in a recent traffic survey for the main routes in and out of Usk.
"We look forward to discussing these results and recommendations later in the summer with the County Council and the police, on the back of Usk Town Council's public consultation, details of which will be announced shortly," said Cllr. Kear.
The estimate for the latest damage to the bridge is £10,000, on top of the cost of earlier repairs, and a bill last year for £20,000.
