A RAPPER and songwriter hailing from Newport is set to release their second single, entitled ‘Mango’, this Friday.
Sonia Ahmed, who grew up in Newport, is due to release a second single in Ms Ahmed’ arsenal which is a departure from the first track, ‘Freedom’.
The inspiration behind the single is, as the songwriter puts it, a “celebration of authenticity and self-liberation.
"I find it’s to do with my experiences and journey that other people can relate to".
“Everyone is unique with unique talents so I wanted to be myself in everything I do and spread empowerment".
So what's the track going to be like?
Ms Ahmed said, "It’s quite a vibrant track, its bold, its slow-paced, its about the rhythm and about the dance”.
The aim was “make it serious but fun at the same time”.

"Mangoes have always been the main fruit in our household, it’s the best and my mum would always get a box from Faisal’s.
"It was really simple though, it’s just quite a catchy name".
Sonia Ahmed explains that the best memory she has from growing up in Newport is:
"Going to John Frost Square every Saturday to enjoy a fish and chip lunch with my mum.
"There used to be a clock in John Frost Square which used to open up and there would be like, a little show in the clock".
"That's one of the best memories I've got", says Sonia.
The single, 'Mango' is available to pre-order and will be released on Friday, January 12 2024.
