FAMILY and friends of a man who died in a crash in Risca on Tuesday have paid tribute to him.

David Michael Freeman, 45, from Pantside, Newbridge, died after his transit van was in collision on the A467.

Yesterday his family paid tribute to him.

In a statement they said: "David was a caring family man who adored his family and was adored by everyone he met."

He had lived in the area all his life and had a close relationship with his family.

He leaves his father, mother, brothers, sister, two daughters, Paige & Madison, and his partner Claire.

Mr Freeman, who worked on the railways for much of his life, was also an active member of Newbridge Labour club where he made close friendships.

Natalie Harman, stewardess at the Labour club, told the Argus: "He was just in here on Sunday and we heard the news on Tuesday.

"We were all devastated.

"He's a regular member and plays on our Corks team. It just won't be the same without him."

One of his closest friends, Dean Rogers, who knew Mr Freeman since their school days at Newbridge Comprehensive said: "I was so shocked when I heard the news, I couldn't even drive.

"He was a fantastic guy and we'd be out together almost every weekend.

"You could guarantee he would get drunk and that you'd have a brilliant time and a good laugh."

Mr Freeman's family also thanked the emergency services for their swift response to the accident and for all the heartfelt messages of sympathy they have received in the days since his death.

Two other men were injured in the same crash.
