IT was a happy but emotional day on Saturday as Darren and Donna Wheatstone tied the knot.

In Saturday's Argus we reported on Mrs Wheatstone's grief that her mother, Fiona Erickson, who was killed last year, would not be there on her big day.

But to keep her mother close to her as she took her vows, Mrs Wheatstone wore a heart-shaped locket to Pontypool registry office, containing her mother's photo and a sprinkling of her ashes.

Mrs Wheatstone, 31, of Cwmbran said after the wedding: "I definitely feel like she's with me, but it has been hard getting married without her here.

"She would be really happy if she was here today."

Mr Wheatsone, 25, said: "It's been the perfect day except for Donna's mum not being here.

"But she is with all of us in our hearts all the time."

Mrs Erickson was killed in July last year, after her husband, Andrew Erickson, 46, of Banwell Court, Cwmbran, drove his car over her as she lay helpless in a Gwent road.

He was jailed for seven years in March for her manslaughter.

The couple held their reception at The Oasis, in Cwmbran.

Their two year-old daughter, Chantelle, was flower girl and they are now looking forward to the birth of their second child as Donna is four months pregnant.

The couple are booking their honeymoon next week and hope to go to Spain, a place Mrs Wheatstone always used to visit with her mother.
