MEDIEVAL soldiers took over a corner Chepstow Castle as part of Easter celebrations this weekend.
The Freemen of Gwent, a medieval re-enactment group, put on a show for visitors to the castle, setting up different camps, complete with medieval weaponry and armour.
The groups live in the camp from when they arrived on Friday until they leave today and around 30 soldiers, as well as 15 archers, stage an hour-long battle between the tax-collectors men and the men of the castle each day.
Members of the group came from as far afield as Blackpool and Liverpool to take part in the four-day event.
Between the daily battles, the Freemen met with people to talk to them about life in medieval times, showing them weapons and armour used by soldiers.
There was also some authentic cooking, including rabbit stew with prunes and home-made bread.
Event co-ordinator Ann Horton, 49, said: "It's been very successful, we've had a fantastic time and I think the public enjoyed it as well, judging by the comments we've had."
