A CAERLEON florist won a silver medal at the recent Malvern Spring Gardening Show.

Staff from Floralia florist, Cross Street, entered into the “dramatic table” flower display category at the event to claim the second prize.

The team’s entry was themed around childhood and included plants and flowers shaped like a girl’s bodice, an umbrella and the board game snakes and ladders.

Peter and Wendy Bevan have owned the florist for the past 40 years and sent staff members Ann Marie Alexander and Michelle Beech to enter into the competition.

Mr Bevan said: “We were terrified but it is a terrific achievement.”

“The team had never entered any floral competitions before and entries were from all over the UK.”

Mr Bevan added that winning the Mayor's Award in the Argus shop window competition held last Christmas had encouraged them to enter the show.

The florist owners now plan to enter into the Malvern Autumn Show in September as well as the Chelsea Flower Show next year.
