CAT owners on lower incomes can now have their pets neutered, thanks to a donation by generous shoppers.
The Co-op has donated £750 to Gwent South Cats Protection to subsidise the cost of neutering cats for pet owners on low incomes.
The volunteer group rescues and re-homes cats and kittens, as well as educating the public on responsible cat ownership.
June Davies, welfare officer, said: "Having the animals neutered is vital, but also expensive, and many people can't afford the fees.
"Thanks to this generous donation we can provide low-cost neutering for up to 300 cats, which will be of enormous help to their owners." The donation comes from the Community Dividend fund, part of the Co-op's loyalty card scheme. The scheme issues shoppers' vouchers and they can choose to donate any extra pennies to charity, rather than rolling them over.
