THE award-winning Warsaw Village Band is set to raise funds for the Maindee festival next week.

Their music is a mix of Polish folk and contemporary dance rhythms, and is truly infectious.

"Warsaw Village Band is a result of response against narrow-mindedness, which in fact leads to destruction of human dignity," a spokesman for the band said. "The band explores folklore and the archaic sounds of our ancestors and our instincts. Moreover, it's an inexhaustible source of fun, joy and spontaneity."

They formed in 1996 and are still composed of suka (a unique Polish fiddle coming from the 16th century), cello and various traditional Polish drums.

The young band won the BBC World Music Awards in 2004 for best newcomers.
