SLOVENIAN sensation Matej Zagar is in town on Sunday as the high-profile Reading squad visit the Hayley Stadium in another meeting which has all the makings of a classic.

Zagar is one of the few riders who hold a Premier League average which is comparable to that of Wasps skipper Craig Watson, and the clashes between the two men will be eagerly anticipated.

The meeting will once again start at 4pm with accompanied children being admitted for £1 - a move which was voted a major success with many additional youngsters witnessing a highly entertaining clash between the Wasps and the Isle of Wight which finished 45-45 after Watson and Mads Korneliussen stormed to a last-ditch 5-1 in Heat 15.

Reading won comfortably on their previous visit to Wales this season, but although the Smallmead club are in the Premier League's top five the Wasps will be optimistic of getting the better of the Racers.

Reading's away record in the Premier League has hampered their title challenge, with just one win on the road this season, and they have also suffered a couple of injuries which cost them a chance of winning the Premier Trophy, a competition they lost to Exeter last weekend.

The Berkshire club will be waiting on the fitness of Danny Bird, who suffered concussion at Glasgow last month, but they will be able to call upon ex-Wasp Andrew Appleton who has been in excellent form in recent weeks.

The Wasps came close to upsetting Reading on their own circuit a couple of weeks ago as they held the lead with just two heats to go before the Racers ended with two 5-1s, and all at the Hayley Stadium are keen to complete the job this time around.

Promoter Tim Stone said: "Reading ride our track well, as we have done well there this season, so it will certainly be an interesting meeting.

"I know they are suffering a bit with injuries at the moment and I'm not belittling that, but we have suffered in a similar way all season.

"I was encouraged by the number of kids who came in last Sunday and they saw some good speedway with some very good racing from both teams."

The next fixture for the Newport Mavericks in the Conference League is away at Stoke next Wednesday (August 11).
