A WELL-DESERVED draw against their Dr Martens Premier Division opponents made for another satisfying 90 minutes for the Crows at PenydarrenPark last night.

Impressive trialist midfielder Martin Phillips struck a sweet, 20-yard drive past home goalkeeper Anthony Morris on 61 minutes to cancel out Craig Steins' first-half effort as Cwmbran continued their preparations for the start of the new Welsh Premier season.

Phillips looked a busy, effective player and Cwmbran also gave a trial to goalkeeper Huw Liddell and tricky former Newport County forward Chris Rogers.

Liddell often appeared unsure on crosses and he was forced to make a couple of fine second-half saves to redeem himself for the poor punch which gave Steins the chance to fire the ball past him after just ten minutes.

Rogers managed to show a few glimpses of skill and both he and Phillips could get another chance to impress when Cwmbran visit Tredegar Town on Saturday for their final warm-up game.

Cwmbran look to be well served in defence and midfield and the if they can sign a second goalscorer to dovetail with Summers, then the 04/05 season could well be a successful one.
