GET ready for some shocks in the Wales team to face England in Sunday's World Cup quarter-final at the Suncorp Stadium, writes Robin Davey.

The make-up of the side is being kept a tightly guarded secret until tomorrow, but the players have been told and for some it will be a huge disappointment.

So many areas are suddenly wide open for the biggest Wales game Wales in years, and excitement is reaching fever pitch after last week's stirring performance against the All Blacks.

Biggest talking points involve the back row and back three, but centre, scrum half, prop and lock are also being tightly contested.

The biggest shock could mean no starting place for openside flanker Martyn Williams. Coach Steve Hansen may try to match England's physicality with a bigger back row of skipper Colin Charvis at seven alongside Dafydd Jones and Jonathan Thomas (pictured above) to take England on around the fringes.

At lock Brent Cockbain is a certainty, but it's between Gareth Llewellyn and Robert Sidoli alongside him, Llewellyn's greater experience probably giving him the vote.

There will be more scrums against England than against New Zealand so Adam Jones and Iestyn Thomas are likely to be the props.

At scrum half Gareth Cooper's extra combative edge may give him the nod ahead of Dwayne Peel.

Sonny Parker is unlikely to make it because of his damaged arm, but it may not necessarily be Mark Taylor alongside Iestyn Harris, for Ceri Sweeney is stating a case.

And in the back three winger Gareth Thomas could play at full back after his success as a replacement against the All Blacks, which would mean no place for Kevin Morgan and Rhys Williams.

There would probably be a riot if Hansen left Shane Williams out after his electrifying performance against the All Blacks, so it could be Williams and Mark Jones on the flanks. Hansen is one of the game's more astute coaches and his whole preparation is now seen to be paying dividends.

His job has been on the line more than once, but he has stuck to his guns and been proved right.

Now everything depends on the England game. It's not far in Welsh rugby to go from hero to zero.

A lot of people are about to find out just where they stand, not least Hansen.
