SHOP workers got on their bikes to raise nearly £5,000 for charity.

Kelvin Reddicliffe, manager of shoe repair store Timpson in Austin Friars, Newport, even donned a Welsh kilt for the 14-mile cycle.

"It was a bit breezy," he said.

Mr Reddicliffe, 49, was joined by his wife Janet, 50, and Timpson area manager Gareth Drewe, 40, and staff member 30-year-old Shane Baulch. The quartet cycled from Newport's Archibald Street to Goldcliffe and back to raise money for the Noah's Ark Appeal for the new Welsh children's hospital. And between them they raised £4,884 in sponsorship and donations.

"We would like to thank the people of Newport for giving so generously," said Mr Reddicliffe. "We would also like to thank John and James Timpson for allowing us to put donation boxes in 24 branches."
