A PARADE with more than 200 people in fancy dress wound its way through Cwm's streets on Saturday afternoon.

The Cwm Carnival was being held for the first time in eight years - and residents turned out in crowds to enjoy the day and the sunshine.

Rain stopped the carnival from going ahead on its orginal date of June 26 but organisers Ceinwen Gwynne and her sister, Georgina Kinsey, were not deterred.

They organised the event for Saturday and said even more people wanted to take part on the new date.

"People were ringing us asking if they could still join in," said Ceinwen.

All profits are going towards Cwm Lighting Fund for Christmas lights for the village.

This year's Carnival Queen is 14-year-old Alex Baker. She and her attendants were driven through Cwm on a special float.

The parade was accompanied by music from the Cwm Town Band and a jazz band.

Entertainment following the parade included a fairground, tug-o-war competitions, a comedy egg and spoon race, raffles, line dancers, an owl display, lots of stalls, a bouncy castle and refreshments.
